The populace was 7,990 at the 2010 census.

Blair was platted in 1869 when the Sioux City and Pacific Railroad was extended to that point. It was titled for barns magnate John Insley Blair, who was credited with bringing the barns to town. Within its first year, Blair was designated county seat. Blair was incorporated as a town/city in 1872. Blair is positioned at 41 32 44 N 96 8 4 W (41.545562, -96.134383).
